The Agave plant, known as the flower of patience in Turkey, was taken under protection and bloomed for the first time after reaching a height of 5 meters in a month, after at least 60 years at the seaside in Mersin. The interest of the local residents has increased even more with the flowering of the Agave in Mersin, which is known to bloom once in 50 to 100 years. It was reported that the plant species, which was surrounded by a barbed wire fence and taken under protection by the Silifke District Governor’s Office, is one of the ones that never bloom again.
Noting that the plant grew branches after 4 meters, a resident Hasan Çelik said, “After a certain time, yellow flowers bloomed. Especially people living in the region are very surprised when they see it for the first time. Because this happened just in 1 month. It used to be a plant on a rock. I guess that this plant came by sea and clings to these places,” he said.
