relatives of disappeared mexicans protest government

Protesters gathered in front of the Presidential Palace in Mexico City’s capital, demanding that their missing loved ones be found. They poured soil in front of the Presidential Palace by a truck, laid down photographs and belongings of their relatives, and built symbolic graves. “If President Lopez Obrador does not come to visit the graves, the graves will come to see him,” protesters wrote on banners. The violence in the state has become excessive; roads were constantly blocked by criminal groups, shops were burned, kidnapping and murder were committed, and the bodies of abducted people were found hanging on bridges or dismembered in black bags, Protesters from the Mexican state of Guanajuato stated.

According to data from Mexico’s National Search Commission, the state of Guanajuato has the second highest number of kidnapping cases in the country, with 3,380 people missing this year.
