In the Ukrainian city of Sumy, the Ukrainians, fleeing the attack of Russian troops on civilian settlements, set off with the first convoy to go to Poltava. Dimytro Lunin, Deputy Head of Poltava Regional State Administration, announced that the humanitarian corridor has been opened for the evacuation of the residents of the city of Sumy, saying, “The people coming from Sumy will be taken to Poltava via Lokhvytsia and Lubny. This route was accepted by the Ukrainian and Russian sides. Ukraine is following the situation closely.”
Lunin stated that the Vice President of Ukraine Irina Vereshchuk is also following the process closely and said, “We will evacuate civilians, including foreign students. Humanitarian aid will also reach Sumy through this humanitarian corridor,” he said.
United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi described the migration in Ukraine as the fastest growing refugee crisis in Europe since the Second World War, and said that the number of refugees fleeing the war has exceeded 2 million.
