Ramadan began quietly in occupied East Jerusalem, where Israeli restrictions limited decorations and access to the Al-Aqsa Mosque. Authorities imposed a 10,000-person quota for Friday prayers and tightened entry from the West Bank, reducing commercial activity and visitor numbers.
Residents said the absence of traditional lights and barriers on worshippers dampened the atmosphere. Despite the restrictions, around 80,000 people attended the first Friday prayer at Al-Aqsa under heavy security.
