Ahmet Ergin, a 72-year-old retired imam living in Türkiye’s northern province of Ordu, has ingeniously reduced his electricity bills by installing a homemade system powered by a nearby stream. Graduating from Karadeniz Technical University’s Vocational School Electrical Department, Ergin pursued his passion for electronics after retiring in 2002.
Utilizing scrap materials and his electrical expertise, Ergin set up an electricity-generating system alongside a modest stream near his home a decade ago. Despite initial skepticism from engineers, Ergin’s system has successfully powered lights, refrigerators, and TVs, reducing his bills by up to a third.
