Romania’s New Government Wins Confidence Vote

Romania’s new coalition government, led by Social Democratic Party (PSD) leader Marcel Ciolacu, has secured a parliamentary vote of confidence following the December 1 elections.

The pro-European government received 240 votes in favor, surpassing the 233 needed for a majority in the 466-member parliament. Addressing lawmakers, Prime Minister Ciolacu emphasized the need for reforms and investments, acknowledging the country’s ongoing economic challenges and political instability.

“This coalition aims to rebuild trust and restore social and economic justice,” Ciolacu stated, highlighting the government’s focus on overcoming the current crisis
