Russia hits civilian settlements in Kyiv, 2 killed

The apartments between the 1st and 5th floors of a residential building were severely damaged due to the bomb hitting a 10-storey building in the Podol district in Kyiv during the Russian attacks. A clear statement has not yet been made regarding the number of dead or injured in the attack that took place in the morning. While a large number of search and rescue teams were sent to the scene, search and rescue efforts continue in the area.

Further, bombs fell on 2 buildings in Svyatoshin, another targeted district in Kyiv. After the incident, the fire that started in the 9-storey building was intervened by 10 personnel and 5 technical vehicles. Search and rescue efforts continue. In the Svyatoshin district, the bodies of 2 people were found in the 15-storey building that was hit by a bomb. While 35 people rescued by the teams were evacuated to the safe zone, the search and rescue team consisting of 52 personnel and 14 technical vehicles continues to work at the scene.

Türkiye’s Fidan Calls for Leaders’ Summit on Ukraine War

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said the recent peace talks in Istanbul have brought a new dimension to diplomatic efforts on Ukraine and proposed a leaders’ summit hosted by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. “A summit with leaders from Russia, Ukraine, and the US could help achieve a long-term ceasefire,” he said.

Speaking at a joint press conference in Kyiv with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, Fidan emphasized Türkiye’s ongoing diplomatic efforts, stating that President Erdoğan has been working actively since the war began. He added that talks in Istanbul on May 16 led to concrete results, including a prisoner swap.

Fidan shared insights from his prior visit to Moscow and said Russia is open to further talks on June 2. He stressed the importance of continuing momentum and involving international actors to build common ground for peace.

Fidan is also scheduled to meet with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Andriy Yermak, Rustem Umerov, and representatives of the Crimean Tatar and Gagauz Turkish communities.
