Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky touched upon the ceasefire to be made with Russia at a joint press conference held after his meeting with his Finnish counterpart President Alexander Stubb in Helsinki, Finland, and said that he will meet with US President Donald Trump today.

Emphasizing that Russia continues its attacks, especially on Ukrainian energy infrastructure, despite the ongoing negotiations, Zelensky said, “These attacks show that Russia is not ready to end the war. Russia’s words and actions do not match.”

Answering a press member’s question about what Ukraine’s “red line” is, the Ukrainian leader said, “Recognizing the occupied territories of Ukraine as Russian territory is our red line. We will not accept this,” and that Ukraine does not intend to give any land to Russia.

Responding to the same question, the Finnish President referred to the concessions that Finland had to make after the Finnish-Soviet War and the Continuation War and said, “Ukraine should not find itself in the same situation as Finland, which lost its sovereignty and territory after the wars.”

“Ukraine is part of Europe. Ukraine is European. We will be together in the European Union and NATO as soon as possible,” the Finnish President said in his speech.

Iran Warns Europe Over Nuclear Dispute

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Arakchi issued a stern warning to the UK, Germany, and France, accusing them of making a “new strategic mistake” regarding Tehran’s nuclear program. In a social media post, Arakchi said, “Iran will give a tough and determined response to the violation of its rights,” criticizing the European trio for backing a resolution against Iran at the IAEA Board of Governors.

Arakchi condemned the move as baseless, recalling past disputes in 2005 which led to the expansion of Iran’s uranium enrichment. “Have these three really not learned any lessons in the last twenty years?” he said.

Meanwhile, the IAEA reported on May 31 that Iran’s 60% enriched uranium stockpile had grown from 274.8 kg in February to 408.6 kg by May 17. In response, the UK, Germany, and France are reportedly preparing to refer Iran’s file to the UN Security Council, which could activate the “snapback” mechanism and reimpose UN sanctions.
