Akdeniz University Faculty of Fisheries Member Prof. Dr. Mehmet Gökoğlu made statements regarding sharks. Stating that the shark population is shown to have increased on social media and he is extremely upset about this, Gökoğlu said that the species has decreased recently and their generations are also in danger. Gökoğlu, who spent a quarter of his life doing underwater research, said that there are no dangerous sharks on the Turkish coast. Stating that the citizens who come on holiday should not be afraid of such a fear when they go to the sea, Gökoğlu said, “I played with sharks underwater most of the time. They never attacked me. If didn’t eat me, they would eat no one,” he said.
The professor’s close contact with a school of sand shark that he came across during his dives off the coast of Antalya was recorded by the underwater camera.
