Şanlıurfa, a province located in the southeastern Anatolia region of Türkiye, was designated the ‘City of Music’ by UNESCO after being recognized as eligible for inclusion in UNESCO’s ‘Creative Cities Network’ list. The citizens of the province welcomed the news from UNESCO with open arms.
Şanlıurfa Mayor Zeynel Abidin Beyazgül mentioned that Şanlıurfa is the hometown of numerous artists who gained great popularity throughout the country, such as İbrahim Tatlıses and Müslüm Gürses. He added that there is a claim that every local has beautiful voices, which could be linked to traditional ‘sira nights’ where songs are sung accompanied by instruments
