Sea-water level rose due to bad weather conditions in north of Tenerife Island located in Spain’s Canary Islands. In the Garachico city, waves reaching 4 meters in height were occurred. Also powerful waves hit the streets located in the city’s coasts at morning hours caused flooding. Authorities stated that flooding caused material damage and some city residents also were slightly injured. The General Directorate of Security and Emergencies of the government of the Canary Islands stated that flood alarm given in Garachico and residents warned against flooding. In his statement, Garachico Mayor Jose Heriberto Gonzalez said that flood warning system in Garachico failed and the system doesn’t take into account the water coming from the sea to the land. Gonzalez also urged city residents and visitors to be cautious against disasters that could happen in following hours.

Germany’s Merz Questions Israel’s Gaza Strikes

German Chancellor Friedrich Merz called for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, questioning Israel’s continued military actions and urging humane treatment of civilians. Speaking in the Bundestag ahead of the NATO Summit, Merz supported US President Trump’s ceasefire call between Iran and Israel and warned against further regional escalation.

Merz reaffirmed Germany’s commitment to Israel’s security but opposed suspending EU-Israel ties. On Ukraine, he stressed continued support and sanctions against Russia, stating, “Putin only understands the language of power.” He pledged to strengthen Germany’s military and deepen NATO cooperation.
