Rescue efforts for Russian mountaineer Natalya Nagovitsina, stranded at 7,100 meters on Victory Peak in Kyrgyzstan, have been called off. The Kyrgyz Mountaineering Federation said there is no sign of her survival after days of drone searches and failed rescue attempts.
Nagovitsina broke her foot during descent on August 12 and became trapped in freezing conditions. Severe weather, helicopter accidents, and the risks of operating above 7,000 meters hampered efforts. Officials noted no successful rescue has ever been carried out at that altitude on Victory Peak.
