Afghan security forces stormed a militant hideout affiliated with the rival DEASH or Islamic State (IS) outfit in the Qalacha and Shuhadai Salehen localities of Kabul Wednesday evening, killing 7 people and arresting several others, the Taliban’s chief spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid said Thursday. Mujahid also said Afghan security forces captured two armed insurgents of the rival DEASH group in the western Nimroz province early Wednesday morning. Residents in Kabul reported earlier on Wednesday afternoon that a series of explosions had shaken the Karta-e-Naw neighborhood and its surroundings in Police District 8.
DEASH has claimed responsibility for a series of deadly attacks on Afghan caretaker government interests, the most recent of which occurred a few days ago on the gate of a military airport in Kabul, killing and injuring over a dozen people. The group has yet to make a comment on Mujahid’s claim.
