A gunman opened fire inside a building at Florida State University (FSU) on Thursday, killing two and injuring six. The attacker, identified as 20-year-old student Phoenix Ikner, was shot and wounded by police.
FSU Police Chief Jason Trumabuer said Ikner entered the building and fired randomly at students and staff. Authorities confirmed that the two killed were not students. Ikner, the son of a Leon County Sheriff’s Deputy, had a gun and a rifle, though it’s unclear if both were used.
An emergency alert was issued on campus, prompting lockdown protocols. The university later lifted the alert and canceled all classes for the day. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis offered condolences, stating that the investigation is ongoing.
FSU faced a similar attack in 2015, where three were injured and the shooter was killed.
