Cuba continues to struggle with a power outage caused by the Antonio Guiteras Power Plant failure, leaving millions without electricity since October 18th. Amid the crisis, Tropical Storm Oscar hit the eastern part of the country, causing flooding and heavy rains. Six people died in San Antonio del Sur due to the storm, according to Civil Defense officials. President Miguel Diaz-Canel confirmed the casualties and stated that despite the storm passing, significant damage remains in Guantanamo.
The city’s power company announced that 90 percent of Havana, which had been plunged into darkness for days, had received electricity as of yesterday evening. Authorities reported that there were still areas without electricity in Havana and surrounding areas.
