Six Palestinians escaped from the high-security Gilboa Prison in northern Israel by digging a tunnel. The escaped prisoners were Zakaria Zubeidi, a member of the Islamic Jihad Movement and the former Commander of the Al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, the armed wing of the Fatah Movement. It was stated that 6 Palestinians who were reported to have escaped remained in the same cell, and dug a tunnel for a month with a spoon they had hidden behind a poster.
Israeli forces announced the launch of a large-scale search for the fleeing Palestinians.
