A construction site disaster unfolded in George, South Africa, claiming 5 lives and leaving 49 workers missing after a building collapse. The George Municipality reported 21 workers rescued and hospitalized, with search and rescue efforts ongoing by three teams. President Cyril Ramaphosa extended condolences and called for an investigation to determine the cause and prevent future tragedies. The incident occurred with an estimated 75 workers on-site at the time of the collapse.
The Palestinian Health Ministry reported that Israel’s attacks on Gaza have killed 62,895 people and injured 158,927 since October 7, 2023. In the last 24 hours alone, 76 people were killed and 298 injured.
At aid distribution points, deaths have risen to 2,158, with nearly 16,000 wounded. The ministry also said 10 more civilians, including two children, died of starvation, bringing Gaza’s hunger-related death toll to 313.
