Last weekend, the Spanish held parades and dances in the towns of Barcelona and Girona to welcome spring. Groups of giants and capgrossos, which are very popular at festivals in Catalonia, paraded through the streets and squares to entertain the audience.
A gunman armed with an M4 rifle killed four people, including NYPD Officer Didarul Islam, in a mass shooting at 345 Park Avenue in Midtown Manhattan. The attacker, 27-year-old Shane Devon Tamura, later died by suicide on the 33rd floor. Police say Tamura, who traveled from Colorado, had a history of mental illness and was possibly acting selectively. Three civilians were also killed; one person remains hospitalized. The FBI is assisting in the investigation. Mayor Eric Adams called the incident “a night of senseless violence.”
