In Madrid, the capital of Spain, labor unions protested high inflation and low wages in the country. Thousands of demonstrators gathered in the Great Square and demanded pay hikes. “When consumer prices rise 10 percent and wages rise 1 percent, it means workers are rapidly losing their purchasing power. We are getting poorer every day, and worst of all, there is a minority that is getting richer,” said Tomas Perez, a 52-year-old nurse who joined the protest.
The Interprofessional Minimum Wage Commission rejected raising Spain’s minimum wage, which is currently one thousand euros.
