Storks that migrate to the Muş Plain in the Koç village of the Hasköy district of Türkiye’s Muş every year in the spring and summer months and migrate to warmer regions in the fall refuse to leave the region for two years despite freezing temperatures and continue to feed on the banks of the Karasu River and the surrounding reeds.
“For two years, these storks have not left because of the temperature changes. I am 45 years old, and this is the first time I have encountered this situation. I do not know if the reason for the storks not migrating is the temperature or if there is another reason. In previous years, they would leave in the fall and return at the beginning of spring. But the storks have not migrated for two years,” said a local named Haşim Özen.
