Storm Boris, heading south from Central Europe, caused flooding in the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy. Numerous residential areas were flooded, forcing over a thousand people to evacuate their homes.
Interim regional government president Irene Priolo stated that it had rained for more than 48 hours and three rivers overflowed.
In May 2023, 17 people lost their lives and 8.5 billion euros in damage were caused as a result of heavy rain and landslides in Emilia-Romagna.
