Ossama Hamad, the head of government in eastern Libya, has expressed grave concerns about the aftermath of Storm Daniel. He fears that around 2,000 lives may have been lost in the floods it caused, particularly in the hard-hit city of Derna, which he has declared a disaster area. Meanwhile, Ahmed al-Mosmari, spokesperson for the eastern armed forces, reported a death toll exceeding 2,000 and between 5,000 to 6,000 missing individuals in Derna.
The flood catastrophe was attributed to the collapse of two dams near the city.
