Storm Kristin killed at least five people in central and northern Portugal, triggering floods, landslides, and widespread damage, authorities said. Heavy rain and winds of up to 150 km/h caused more than 3,000 incidents and left over 850,000 people without electricity, severely disrupting transport and daily life. Major roads and rail lines, including the main route linking Lisbon to northern Portugal, were closed as schools and public buildings shut down. The storm later moved into Spain, where emergency services handled around 2,000 weather-related incidents and authorities issued warnings for hurricane-force winds.
