Street Art Shapes Bogotá’s Identity

In the streets of Bogotá, the capital of Colombia, graffiti reflects the city’s political history, social struggles, peace process, and cultural diversity. Spread across walls, alleyways, and buildings, large murals turn the Colombian capital into an open-air museum.

Many works reference the 2016 peace process with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, including messages such as “Sanaremos” (“We will heal”), symbolizing recovery after decades of conflict. One of the city’s most striking pieces is the “INK” inscription atop the Bacatá skyscraper, considered the highest graffiti in Bogotá.

The city’s graffiti scene gained global attention in 2013 after Justin Bieber made murals during his visit, helping establish graffiti tours as a key cultural attraction.
