Sudanese army spokesman Nabil Abdullah said on state television that the presidential palace and ministry buildings in central Khartoum, which were seized by the paramilitary group The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in 2015, have been recaptured.

“Our forces have completely destroyed enemy fighters and equipment and seized a large amount of equipment and weapons. We confirm that we will continue the fight until victory is complete,” Abdullah said.

Clashes after the Sudanese army and RSF, which refused General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan’s call to join the national army to prevent it from acting as an independent force, left thousands dead across the country. Both sides are accused of targeting civilians and bombing residential areas.

The RSF, which began forming a parallel government earlier this year, has control of parts of Khartoum and neighboring Omdurman, as well as western Sudan, where the army is fighting to capture Al-Fashir, its last stronghold in Darfur.

Russia has handed over the bodies of 1,000 Ukrainian soldiers in exchange for 19 Russian soldiers as part of an agreement reached during peace talks in Istanbul.

Russian Vice President Vladimir Medinsky stated, “As a continuation of the Istanbul agreements, we returned 1,000 bodies of Ukrainian soldiers today and received the bodies of 19 of our own. May they all rest in peace in their homeland.”

The Kremlin confirmed that the exchange follows the second round of peace talks held in June in Istanbul. According to Russian state agency TASS, the transfer marks the beginning of a broader process to return 3,000 Ukrainian soldiers’ bodies.
