Following a call from Shiite leader Muqtada Al-Sadr in Iraq, his supporters gathered in Baghdad’s Tahrir Square to protest the unexpected visit of US Secretary of State Antony Blinken to the country. As the crowd of demonstrators grew, they chanted slogans against the USA and Israel, prompting security forces to implement stringent security measures. In order to restrict access to the protected Green Zone, where the US Embassy in Baghdad is situated, all roads and bridges leading to the area were closed.
