Survivor Reveals Torture in Syria’s Sednaya Prison

Amar Musa, a former prisoner of Syria’s Sednaya Prison, has recounted the brutal torture he endured under the Assad regime. Speaking from the cell where he was once held, Musa described the horrors, stating, “They only let us crawl here; anyone who raised their head would die.”

Musa revealed that prisoners were tied with ropes and forced to walk crouching or crawling, with fatal consequences for disobedience. Overcrowding was extreme, with inmates sleeping on top of one another.

Displaying a photo of himself before his imprisonment, Musa highlighted his dramatic physical decline due to mistreatment. From his former cell, he defiantly addressed Assad, saying, “I am not dead, I am here and I am alive.”

Sednaya Prison remains infamous as a site of severe torture, where thousands perished, and survivors live with lasting trauma.
