Syrian Foreign Minister Assad Hassan Shaybani arrived in Washington D.C., marking the first high-level Syrian visit to the United States in a quarter century. His agenda includes talks on lifting US sanctions and reconnecting Syria’s economy to the global financial system.
Shaybani met US Treasury officials and Special Representative for Syria Tom Barrack to discuss counterterrorism financing. He also held talks with Congressman Ibb Hamada and is expected to meet Secretary of State Marco Rubio later in his visit.
