Opposition forces led by Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) have taken control of much of Aleppo, prompting thousands of displaced Syrians to begin their journey back to their hometowns. Residents of Cinderes in Afrin are among those advancing toward Aleppo, carrying their belongings on trucks and vehicles, expressing joy at returning after years of displacement.
One Syrian returning to Aleppo said, “We’ve been away for about eight years. We’re heading home with hope to reunite with our village and family. God willing, we’ll continue to Damascus and eventually Jerusalem.” Another added, “Aleppo is now in our hands, and I am finally returning to my village after 12 years. I thank Türkiye for its support.”
The ongoing civil war, which began in 2011, forced many to flee their homes, but the recent territorial advances by opposition groups have reignited hopes of rebuilding their lives.
