Many Syrians who had been away from their country since the 2011 civil war and now returned as the Bashar Assad regime is overthrown come back to their old neighborhood to see piles of rubble sitting on their lands.

“We came back to our neighborhood after 13 years. We saw that our house had been destroyed. We had built our house by force, saving every penny. The tyrant Assad destroyed our house with bombs. We are worried. The memories of my children and family were in this house. We were forced to rent houses, although we had one. God is great. God willing, we will rebuild our house. All our money went to rent, but God willing, we will rebuild it when our financial situation improves. God will give us strength and power,” said Semar Ode, who used to live in Yarmouk Camp.
