Protests continue in Kočani, North Macedonia, following a nightclub fire that killed 59 people. Demonstrators, demanding justice, vandalized the Kočani Municipality building and attacked a cafe allegedly owned by the nightclub’s owner.
Authorities have detained 14 people in connection with the fire. Interior Minister Pance Toshkovski reported that 45 of the 150 injured remain in critical condition. The government has declared a seven-day national mourning period.
Syrian President Ahmed al-Shara visited the International Monetary Fund (IMF) headquarters in Washington during his talks with US President Donald Trump. He was welcomed by IMF Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva.
Georgieva said on social media, “It was a privilege to host President Al-Shara at the IMF. We discussed the economic transformation Syrians need and deserve, and I reiterated the IMF’s readiness to assist through technical support to key institutions.”
