tesla aI under investigation for crashing into cyclists, leaving 2 dead in China

On November 5, in the city of Chaozhou, China, 2 people died and 3 injured after a Tesla’s Model-Y vehicle allegedly got out of control and accelerated towards multiple bikers on a street. While a motorcycle driver and a teenager cyclist died at the scene, other drivers were injured heavily.

The accident occurred as the Tesla driver lost control of the vehicle while parking the vehicle and sped up across the street on which they were about to park. Following the crash, the vehicle, which the driver’s family blamed for having a malfunction in the autonomous driving technology, stopped after hitting a wall.

While the Chinese police started an investigation into the accident, Tesla officials announced that they would provide all necessary assistance to the police. Examining the footage of the accident, the company stated they had doubts about whether the brake was pressed because while the vehicle was accelerating, the brake lights were off.

Safety experts believe that the vehicle gained speed because the driver panicked and mistook the brake pedal for the accelerator.

Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said the recent peace talks in Istanbul have brought a new dimension to diplomatic efforts on Ukraine and proposed a leaders’ summit hosted by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. “A summit with leaders from Russia, Ukraine, and the US could help achieve a long-term ceasefire,” he said.

Speaking at a joint press conference in Kyiv with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, Fidan emphasized Türkiye’s ongoing diplomatic efforts, stating that President Erdoğan has been working actively since the war began. He added that talks in Istanbul on May 16 led to concrete results, including a prisoner swap.

Fidan shared insights from his prior visit to Moscow and said Russia is open to further talks on June 2. He stressed the importance of continuing momentum and involving international actors to build common ground for peace.

Fidan is also scheduled to meet with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Andriy Yermak, Rustem Umerov, and representatives of the Crimean Tatar and Gagauz Turkish communities.
