As part of the annual event “Earth Hour” in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand, the city’s lights were turned off for an hour to draw attention to the climate crisis and energy savings. Many areas, including the Royal Palace, government buildings, schools, universities, Buddhist temples, private workplaces, shopping malls, and residential areas, were plunged into darkness between 20.30 and 21.30 local time. The event, organized by the Bangkok Governorship and the Thailand Wildlife Fund, was also participated by citizens.
One of the managers of the Bangkok Electricity Administration stated that approximately 36 megawatts of saving was achieved, corresponding to approximately 1,686 dollars of saving, and carbon emission values were reduced by 5.2 tons thanks to this event held last year.
