Turkish student Adam Yunus Ayan who lives in New Jersey, USA, was awarded the John Philip Sousa National High School Honors Band of the year by the John Philip Sousa Foundation. Graduating from Glen Ridge High School this year, Ayan became the first Turkish to be granted the award. It is necessary to prove leadership qualification and be gifted in music in addition to having a high grade degree to get the award. The award is not given to anyone unless any student meets these criteria during the year.
