US Special Operations Forces (SOF) under the control of the US Central Command (CENTCOM) had carried out an air operation in the town of Atmeh in Syria’s Idlib city at night. After the operation, US President Joe Biden announced on Thursday that the leader of the terrorist organization DAESH, “Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi”, was killed in the operation. “Last night at my direction, U.S. military forces in the northwest Syria successfully undertook a counterterrorism operation to protect the American people and our Allies, and make the world a safer place. Thanks to the skill and bravery of our Armed Forces, we have taken off the battlefield Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi, the leader of DAESH. All Americans have returned safely from the operation,” Biden said. Expressing that the US soldiers have completed the operation safely and returned, Biden said that he will make a statement on the subject in the morning.

On the other hand, according to the Syrian Civil Defense Organization, a total of 13 people, including 6 children and 4 women, died in the operation last night.

Mark Carney, who has become Canada’s new prime minister after Justin Trudeau’s resignation, addressed US President Donald Trump’s proposal to make Canada the 51st state of the United States after taking the oath of office.

Touching upon the major differences between the two countries, Carney said, “We will never and in no way be part of the United States.” He also described US Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s statement that it would be economically better for Canada to be a state of the US as “crazy.”

In response to journalists’ question on whether he would travel to the United States to meet with Trump, Carney said, “I do not plan to travel to the United States. I look forward to speaking with President Trump at the appropriate time.”
