Following the eruption of Indonesia’s Ibu Volcano on Halmahera Island, North Maluku, 3,000 residents are being evacuated, according to the Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation Center (PVMBG). The volcano emitted dense ash clouds, reaching heights of 4 kilometers. Authorities have raised the alert level and advised residents and tourists to avoid the restricted 5-6 kilometer radius and use masks to protect against ashfall. Halmahera Island, home to around 700,000 people, remains on high alert.
