Around 3,899 individuals have been forced to evacuate their homes in Tianjin, China, following the discovery of cracks on a road passing through a site in the Jinnan district. The Tianjin local government referred to the incident as a “sudden geological disaster,” possibly caused by underground cavities at depths exceeding 1,300 meters. This unusual collapse is believed to be linked to drilling activities in geothermal wells. Numerous experts and professional teams from various ministries have been dispatched to investigate the area.
The evacuation involved residents from three 25-story buildings, totaling approximately 4,000 people. Since June 3, these individuals have been relocated to nearby hotels. Social media images have captured the road swelling and cracks forming between the buildings and the ground.
