Around 5,000 people were evacuated after a forest fire broke out in Yerapatra on the Greek island of Crete, spreading to nearby homes. Four elderly residents were hospitalized with respiratory issues.

Strong winds hampered firefighting, with over 230 firefighters, 46 vehicles, and 10 helicopters deployed. Additional teams were sent from Athens, and an arson investigation is underway. Authorities also responded to fires on the islands of Kythira and Chalkidiki.

Local officials reported overnight power outages and communication problems, with evacuees temporarily sheltered in a municipal sports hall.
