Tons of cocaine were seized in the container containing the bananas going to Belgium in Ecuador, the world’s largest banana exporter. Ecuadorian police say they found 8.8 tons of cocaine hidden in a container full of banana crates. The market value of the drugs was reported to be 330 million dollars.
Ecuador has become a key transit country for cocaine produced in Peru and Colombia. Drug traffickers are known to hide their shipments among fruits transported all over the world from the port city of Guayaquil. Last year, more than 200 tons of cocaine were seized in Ecuador, largely in the port of Guayaquil.
