A tornado struck Suqian city in China’s Jiangsu province, causing extensive damage in Daxing and Nancai districts. The tornado resulted in 5 fatalities, 4 injuries, and the displacement of vehicles and power lines. Approximately 5,512 people were affected, 1,646 houses were damaged, and 405 individuals were evacuated to safety. Additionally, 41.8 hectares of farmland were harmed in the disaster.
China raised tariffs on US imports from 34% to 84% starting April 10, escalating tensions in an ongoing trade dispute. Beijing also imposed export controls on 12 US firms and added six more to its “unreliable entities list.”
The move follows the US decision to raise tariffs on Chinese goods to 104%, after former President Donald Trump announced an additional 34% duty on April 2. In response, China matched the rate and warned of further retaliation.
China’s Foreign Ministry criticized the US tariffs as violations of international trade rules and warned it is ready to defend its economic interests if the trade war continues.
