Tornadoes that emerged in the city of Greenwood in Johnson County, US, caused panic and damaged buildings. One person died in their house destroyed by the tornado in Martin County. Fire Chief Eric Funkhouser said 75 homes were damaged in Bargersville. More than 700,000 people in the state were left without electricity due to adverse weather conditions. Many roads were blocked due to fallen trees.
Seven prisons across France were targeted in overnight attacks, with vehicles set ablaze and a prison gate hit by automatic gunfire. Justice Minister Gérald Darmanin said the attacks aimed to intimidate inmates and disrupt the government’s anti-drug efforts. No group has claimed responsibility. Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau vowed a “ruthless” response, while prison unions called the incidents “extremely serious” and demanded urgent action. Facilities in Toulon, Marseille, Nîmes, and near Paris were among those attacked.
