The land phase of the Martyr Lieutenant Caner Gönyeli 2025 Search and Rescue Exercise was successfully completed in Kyrenia, Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). Held under Türkiye’s coordination, the drill simulated a plane crash between Izmir and Lefkoşa, with UAVs and helicopters locating the wreckage and teams executing rapid rescue operations.
TRNC President Ersin Tatar and 42 observers monitored the exercise, which included participants from Türkiye, the TRNC, and international observers. Tatar emphasized the region’s strategic importance and the need for constant readiness against disasters.
