Following their White House meeting, US President Donald Trump and French President Emmanuel Macron called for an accelerated peace process to end the Russia-Ukraine war.
Trump criticized the Biden administration’s handling of the war, emphasizing that the US had provided over $300 billion in aid, far more than Europe. He urged European nations to take on more responsibility, stating, “I want to bring peace, not war.” He also pushed for a US-Ukraine agreement on rare earth minerals, linking economic cooperation to the peace process.
Macron stressed that any peace deal must protect Ukraine’s sovereignty and should not mean surrender. He supported deploying peacekeepers in Ukraine and working with European allies on reconstruction and security guarantees. Both leaders signaled progress, with Trump set to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky soon to discuss next steps.
