US President Donald Trump has called for the immediate shutdown of the Department of Education, criticizing its inefficiency and high spending. He stated that while the US ranks 40th in global education success, it spends more per student than any other country.

Trump claimed that the department’s employees are mostly working from home, some holding second jobs, and announced plans to fire many of them to reduce government size. He also said he would instruct Elon Musk, who heads the Department of Government Efficiency, to investigate irregularities. Trump suggested that similar audits could uncover widespread waste in the military and other federal agencies.
