Putin described the call as “comprehensive and constructive,” stating that Russia supports a peaceful solution and is ready to work on a memorandum outlining principles and timing for a potential peace deal. He confirmed renewed contact with Ukrainian negotiators in Istanbul.
Trump said, “Russia and Ukraine will immediately begin negotiations to end the war,” and emphasized that the meeting’s tone was “perfect.” He added that he had briefed European leaders, including Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, about the call and noted the Vatican’s interest in hosting the talks.
