Trump’s ‘Hush Money’ Trial Enters Second Day

The trial against former US President Donald Trump continued its second day, focusing on allegations of “hush money” payments during the 2016 Presidential elections. Witness David Pecker, publisher of the National Enquirer, testified that although payments were made to individuals for stories about Trump’s behavior, they were never published. Pecker clarified that such deals were common during political campaigns, emphasizing their role in protecting candidates from damaging stories.

Pecker disclosed that payments were made to model Karen McDougal and doorman Dino Sajudin, with the Enquirer purchasing McDougal’s story after Trump declined. Prosecutors argued that Trump’s involvement in covering up affairs misled voters. Prosecutor Christopher Conroy criticized Trump for violating speech orders, citing derogatory comments made on social media.

Trump, responding to the trial restrictions, expressed frustration at not being able to defend himself publicly and lamented the impact on his campaigning activities due to courtroom confinement.
