The Assos and Troy Tunnels, which pass through the Kaz Mountains in Çanakkale’s Ayvacık district in Türkiye, are planned to be opened in August. The project, 90 percent of which has been completed, will be put into service 10 months ahead of schedule. As a result, the road that takes 50 minutes will be reduced to 5 minutes.
The construction of the Assos and Troy Tunnels, which will connect Ayvacık and Küçükkuyu districts, started in 2016. Lighting, ventilation and fire extinguishing productions continue at full speed. The tunnels are planned to be completed and opened to traffic in August, which continue with a 24-hour shift system with 600 workers and 160 construction machines.
This route, which is not popular due to the uncomfortable and curvy nature of the existing road on the Küçükkuyu ramps, will become much more popular with the opening of the new divided road and tunnels to traffic, and it will contribute significantly to the region’s tourism.
