Turkey aims for 30-kilometer-deep safe zone in northern Syria, Erdogan says

President of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdoğan spoke at the Group Meeting of his Party. He stated in his speech that Turkey’s stance on Sweden and Finland’s NATO membership has not changed. Erdoğan said, “We immediately and openly declared that we are against NATO membership of both countries. NATO is a security organization, NATO is not a support organization for terrorist organizations. Sweden harbors terrorist in their country and parliament.”

On the other hand, Erdogan said, “We broke our High Level Strategic Council Agreement with Greece,” and added, “By eliminating this agreement, we are no longer holding bilateral talks with them, and we will not. If you’re going to be honest, your seat is ready, but if you’re not going to be honest, I’m sorry. They keep calling us because these countries are not able to join NATO. It is impossible to believe the words that are not based on documents, with many bitter experiences, especially EU membership.”

Further, explaining the decision to build a 30-kilometer-deep safe zone along its southern borders has entered a new phase, Erdoğani said, “We are clearing Tell Rifaat and Manbij from terrorists.”
