The “Turkey-Georgia Border Units Exchange Exercise 2021,” hosted by Georgia, was held at the Vale-Türkgözü Border Gate in the country’s Samtskhe-Javakheti area with the participation of Georgian Border Police and Turkish Armed Forces. “The aim of the joint exercise is to share experiences in the field of land border protection between the border units of the two countries and to develop coordinated actions on border security. As part of the exercise, the border guards also improved their ability to respond to border incidents and conduct preventive operations. The exercise scenario consisted of 2 main parts: Detention of illegal immigrants and prevention of animal smuggling across the state border,” the Department of the Border Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Georgia announced.
The joint exercise was held within the framework of the bilateral cooperation plan between Turkey and Georgia for 2021. Such exercises are held every 2 years between the two countries, authorities reported.
