Turkey will build two more nuclear power plants after the ongoing construction of Akkuyu power plant, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced. “We wish to diversify our portfolio in energy by adding nuclear. We will include Turkey among the limited number of countries that process energy in the world. After Akkuyu, we will quickly start preparations of the second and third nuclear power plants” Erdogan said. Akkuyu power plant will have 4,800 megawatts, and will consist of 4 units.
Turkey’s electricity generation is based on gas-burning power plants and hydroelectric units. Its energy supply is heavily reliant on imports, primarily natural gas from Azerbaijan, Iran, and Russia.
